Well,Well... Does anything happen in our country without taking a political colour? The answer is... No, it doesn't.
When Kanchi Shankaracharya was arrested last week, we all knew what was coming. The thrishuls were out. The war cry was heard throughout the country. Yes, its that thing again.. the Secular Vs. Communal battle.
The hindu religious groups viz-a-viz the VHP thought that this was just another exercise by the government to resort to Hindu bashing to appease the minorities. The DMK, which always had an anti-Matt stand, could hardly hide its glee. Hold on, have you ever heard or seen a situation where the Amma's AIADMK and the DMK agreeing upon anything on this earth? Well, you have it here. Both of them nodding their heads in approval. So then, where does BJP stand in this? You have Mr.Arun Jaitely holding press conferences publicly condemning the arrest and seeing a "foreign hand". Well, can't blame any of them. They are trying to do what they do best. Score petty policitical points.
But then, the question remains. What happens to the seer now? The way he was arrested midnight leaves a lot to be desired. The religious leader should have been given an opportunity to consult his legal counsel. What was the hurry? Do you expect a religous figure of such stature to flee to Nepal/Dubai?( This was actually the reason given by the prosecuter ) . Had the same thing happened to a leader of minority community, could anyone have the guts to arrest him without being painted as communal? Does being secular mean just Hindu bashing?
Nobody is above the law. If the Shankaracharya is guilty, so be it. Let him face the consequences. But let us also give him a chance. Lets not project this as a triumph of secular ideology and a victory to politics of appeasement.
As Laloo Prasad said "Let law takes its own course", we all said "Look who is talking".
